Gillespie Approach Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) techniques are designed to gently unwind and release the accumulated strain in the fascial tissues, allowing optimal mobility and better brain function.
CFT is based on the Gillespie Approach Theory
CFT holds that the Craniosacral and Fascial systems are not separate, but one integrated and interconnected system (web). It blends Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release Therapy into a single, effective and integrated therapy. Treatments are attuned to both the cycling of the cerebrospinal fluid and also the tension within the fascial system.
A healthy system allows for the free flow of cerebrospinal fluid from the brain, down the spine, to the sacrum, and then into the connective tissue (fascia). Fascial strain anywhere in that system may affect both brain function as well as mobility. Releasing fascial tightness allows the cranial bones and sacrum to correct, optimizing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid.
Causes of tightness in the craniosacral fascial system include birth traumas, falls and accidents, surgeries, concussions, dental/ortho procedures, as well as emotional traumas which are often stored in the cells and fascia. Gillespie Approach Craniosacral Fascial Therapy may be helpful for the following challenges: Migraines, Concussions, TMJ, Neck pain, Jaw pain, Hip pain, Sinus conditions, Back pain, Pelvic pain, and Whiplash.
In an initial session (75 minutes) we begin by reviewing your history to identify symptoms, pain patterns, as well as identify desired outcomes. From here we will move to the table, where I will spend about 5 minutes assessing your Brain Cycle(the brain has inherent motion which expands and contracts, it encourages cerebrospinal fluid flow. Restricted motion can greatly affect our health and nervous system). There is a high correlation between the quality of the Brain Cycle and the experience of health and wellness. I will then begin to explore the fascial system for strain and tension while I continue to connect with craniosacral rhythm. The main focus is on supporting the body to move and shift in ways that are natural to the wisdom of your own body, and which allow the fascial system to reset, recalibrate and “unwind.” There can be pauses or stillpoints in the work as we allow the body time to open and reset. Towards the end of the session, we will again pause to assess the Brain Cycle of the craniosacral system, and note improvements through the treatment.
Generally we will want to complete a series of 3 additional one-hour sessions after the initial meeting, and then can evaluate progress and define next steps.
